Title: Magneto movement 1968 xlch
Post by: cajun1957a on April 25, 2009, 12:02:35 PM
Does anyone know if retarding the spark with a manual magneto (left hand throttle) pulls the mag into the motor or pushes it away.  I have put new style bars and controls and suspect the action is backwards.  I would think that twisting the left hand throttle grip all the way towards the rider would be proper given the pull a bike would have and the tendancy for a person to hold onto the grips with a downward hold rather that push the throttle grip upwards toward the front of the bike.  Hope this makes sence.

The rotor spins clockwise viewed from the top, so pulling the mag torwards the motor will retard the spark.
