Title: Primary Noise Derby Cover Area
Post by: Wide Glide on April 20, 2022, 03:29:29 PM
I replaced mainshaft bushing with S&S, inner primary bearing, and seal. The bushing walked and I had to put pillow block and loosed nuts on trans. cover to slide mainshaft to get the puller on bushing. I just got it out for winter nap. I getting a noise from derby cover area. The noise builds over time ans it goes away when pulling in clutch, it does vary with no throttle. I didn't change belt or any of the sprockets. I will pull outer cover look over clutch, chain, adjuster and leaning on pulling inner cover.
Any diagnostic tips, shut off engine while riding... Clutch hub bearing, inner bearing, 2 bearings on left side, loose comp. nut, main nut.

Thanks

Clutch hub bearing would be my prime suspect.

How did you slide the mainshaft out of the trap door bearing?

The clutch hub bearing only spins when the clutch is disengaged.

Make sure clutch hub nut is tight.

You may have damaged the ball bearing in the trap door when you pushed on the mainshaft.
