Can anyone help me identify this mystery? While chasing down my shovel leaks got confused. This part is under frame and hard to see. The nut or bolt spins freely in both directions but does not come off. I can see threads above but they appear fixed and not turning.
At first thought it was an extra trans case drain.
5-speed rubber mount FLH?
It could be the remains of the stock oil filter mount under the transmission. Where is your oil filter located now?
Can not load will try later.

OK thanks Xlfan, took photo again.
Any ideas will help. I was able to r and r the gear case and oil pump gaskets now over to inner primary and under tranny finding possible leaks.
The big 7/8 nut . 1980 FLH 4 speed. Oil filter is in oil tank under seat.
That big nut looks to be below trans mount on frame. You should have 4 studs and one bolt that mount transmission. have you pulled whole trans out yet.
At this time not pulling trans out. Shovel running too good for now.
Just trying to go for leak free as possible. The big nut with hole in center just spins either way, it has a lock washer above. Will get some better photos up after raising bike as high up as possible with blocking and scissorjack. I can see threads above but they are fixed and do not turn just the 7/8 nut.

OK after looking at a flh frame on the bay, my parts book on the frame and trans mounting plate.
I was wrong about threads above the nut. Got frame up a little higher.
Can clearly see bolt flats above the spinning 7/8 nut. No threads above.
Pretty sure it is attached to the 5th mounting bolt to trans.
Better angle flats clearly visible.

That is the left front mounting bolt that is bolted threw the mounting plate to the frame with a carriage bolt.It looks like someone has stuck a large diameter not to the bottom threads of the mounting bolt.just cut it or pull it off it is not functional.This won't be your oil leek either.

We have a winner. RT Mike. Thank you that explains it. Now, it is on to the primary or mainshaft bushing or seals.
Probably going to wait a while and just ride it.

HD part 47730-77 it was in the book. The large nut on the threaded stud confused me 4 sure.
