Title: How about CR570-2 cam with a 110 drop on kit?
Post by: guesscrazy on August 20, 2019, 08:06:34 PM
My 103 with these cams is 97hp and 117 lbs of tq. What would 7 additional inches, headwork/porting and thinner headgasket get?
Has anyone done these cams with a 110? Just throwing it out there.

I have done them in a 110. This is with stock heads and stock head gasket.

Not much gain from what I have for $1500 bucks. Will stay at 103 or go all out to a 124. Decisions decisions.

You want bigger numbers you need a bigger cam. It doesn't make 1hp/ci now so why keep the same cam?  You want to do bigger ci and heads done why not a bigger cam, stay under 600 lift and 200ccp or less lots more potential with a recipe of parts that work together.  Lastly you don't mention what pipe you have which is also key to a well running combination.  Bob

In regards to area under the curve (not peak numbers)  these will be very noticeable gains.

This is a 103" with woods 555 cams. Same peak numbers (roughly) as the 110" pictured above (and same as your bike currently), but area under the curve is nowhere near the 110" build. Now adding some cubes, optimizing compression would stretch the curve ( for the graph I've attached) substantially.

Look in the dyno section 110 drop on kit GMR has done several, 585 S&S seems to give good bang for the buck set @ 10.7 static has good results according to him. Thats the recipe I followed very happy with the outcome.  Bob

Looking in Dyno section people are routinely getting 120/120+ on the 110" kits, even with stock heads or just a good valve job.
Maybe you should consider changing your cam instead of doing the heads. . .

What are you looking to improve? A "Stage II" head port and tune should get a 10 HP /10 TQ increase at least.

Just wanting more. 110 kit is $1500 .May pull the trigger on a 124 this winter.124 will be $6000. I think I will have the crank measured before I decide. If crank is good 110 with different cams makes sense but if its wobbly 124 here I come.

124 Will get it done for sure. Go as big as you can afford.

The compression is on the high side for that cam and the 110 drop on. A CVO 110 has a point less.

I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) that you can pull 120HP from a 110 without headwork.  TQ, for sure.

From my research of pretty much what you are lookoing to do.....  You would probably see 110+ hp / 120+ tq and more area under the curve with a 110 big bore kit and the heads done by a good shop using that cam.  However a different cam would probably be best if you do all that work....  But then you get closer to thinking about a throttle body and injectors.....and it never ends....  There are a lot of quality vendors on this site who could help you.

115/125+ with the still small CR575. Stock injectors and just a clean up on the TB.

I think I'm going to do the HD/Mahle piston drop on kit with this cam.  Set the compression at 10.2.  I like to roll on the throttle at 65 to pass semi's without shifting. Will headwork with the 570-2 cams hurt the low end torque? I don't have a budget, and want to do (or not do) whatever will produce the most torque in the 2000-4000 rpm range.  If it only has 100 HP, I don't care, I want max roll on torque.  I can change cams too, but I ride this bagger in the 2000-4000 range primarily.

I am going to swap the cam for something that will work better for a 110. Will get some 110 cvo heads and a larger throttle body.

At that point plan on larger injectors as well.  The whole build should be planned together.  Not just a mix match of parts "best" parts.  Talk to some of the vendors here for a complete package, even if you just buy the parts from them and do they work yourself.  Professionally prepped heads will perform better for you and the build than off the shelf CVO heads....

Would suggest cr575 and headwork. Add 15hp 7 torque. Not cvo heads.

I was thinking might as well have the SE heads worked while I was at it. It is only money.lol

If I were to use SE heads what head mods would you  recommend? Fixing up the paid for twin cam is much cheaper than trading for a M8. I have hefty budget and am probably going to repaint the scooter this winter. Be money ahead of guinea pigging a M8.

I found a good deal on a set of CR 570 cams so I did a basic swap myself. If I ever chase big numbers or have a budget for worked heads an a total build I'll be calling Hillside they put together a nice set up for a fair deal. Experience is the best teacher an they have it.
