Title: Tools for Mainshaft
Post by: Wide Glide on January 25, 2021, 03:54:43 PM
Going to start gathering tools to do the mainshaft bushing and associated seals. Below in what I think I need.
Question is, the large seal tool is for the Quad seal? If so, that is made to be used with the mainshaft removed?
I will be getting a socket to remove the nut that holds the sprocket.

Large tool is for mainshaft oil seal the quad seal sits behind that and needs no special tool and the tool is used with the pulley removed.
The 5th gear seal needs the race removed of the shaft to change but the pulley can stay on just like the small tool photo you posted shows.

You actually can do it without any of them if you are a little creative.
I just redid the whole transmission.

I'd bee replacing that nut with something far better from the likes of 3guyz  (http://www.3guyz.com/)

IF you are yanking it dwn as far as you are...
Check the axial end play for trap door bearings.
It is far cheaper and EZ to replace the bearings now as you are just a few minutes away from pulling the trap door and all the gears out.
(Way too EZ)

It becomes a slippery slope I do know.

Baker sells a couple of better shift drums  (patterns) and shifter pawls
Check out the N1 shift pattern!  N dwn,  and the rest up!
That's is what I did.
