Title: 110” bolt on kit on an 88” twin cam.
Post by: 838 on February 04, 2019, 10:22:41 AM
Can the HD bolt on 4" cylinders be used on the 4" stroke and cases of the 88's?

I believe so...just need different pistons due to stroke.

Someone that knows more than me will chime in here no doubt.

You would get a 100 with 4 inches bore but you need pistons to match, cannot slap a 110 kit only. Check S&S has a kit.

S&S does not separate the kit, would have to be hd.

HD does sell them separatelyb - about 600 bucks as I recall (at a discount dealer / Boardtrack or similar)

That's what I was thinking. Buy the HD cylinders (only), and then a set of 4" pistons for the 4" stroke... it's going on an 01 super glide. Thought a square motor would be a good option.

In all reality though I think I'll tell him just bore to 98" and save the trouble and $$$, but I thought it nice to know if it was even possible!

My understanding is there is a ridge in the case bore for the cylinder just above the piston oiler that needs to be machined out in the early TC 88's. I believe S&S instructions mention this.

  way cheaper...I'm not a 98" guy / believer but 95"/96" work well and I believe have a higher success rate....lots of 98" bikes out there but I'm not convinced boring the cylinders that thin is a great idea

I'd rather have the thicker cylinders in trade for the extra 2 cubic inches

Go 98!! build with confidence. I have done a few. Use CP forged pistons. Also the price for stock bore 88 cylinders is pretty cheap in case something happens.

Just rebuilt a 95" (104TQ/96HP) into a 98" (115TQ/114HP); hits hard.

Another vote for a 98".Mine has nearly 50k on it and it gets beat to the rev limiter EVERY time I ride it.Mine also uses CP pistons with 10cc domes.    Puts out 123/118         Coff 06

You should be able to have your cylinders bored and new pistons for about that price
if going to 98".          Coff 06

98 is a viable option and about 1/2 the cost of 100"

If it's the one you recently posted in the dyno section it'll be a very similar build. If I have my way ;)

Maybe I missed them but in all the years I've been on this board I can't recall a single problem with the 98" bore. I've done a few myself and no problem. Oh wait! I did have a problem with one of them but that was with the Rev Perf cylinders.
