Title: panhead intake question
Post by: Nick9900 on January 13, 2023, 11:07:39 AM
I have the o'ring style, a 56 front and 48 that's been converted, my question is for the 48 head. Are you suppose to have the port threaded all the way in? Or do you back it out to be flush with the intake manifold?

My best guess would the smallest gap between the manifold and heads would work maybe an eight of an inch or so. But as long as the Oring seals I guess it can vary. Just make sure the insert seals so there is no leak.

The thread can't be loose or it will leak and eventually wear out the threads in the head from vibration.

That makes sense. Seen a you tube were they backed it out. Got me to questioning my brain. Thank you :slap:

You can get some of that slack used up when the head bolts are loose.

If the spigot sits too deep in the head to get a good seal at the manifold, one fix is to make a shim ring. Drop the ring in the hole and tighten the spigot.
