Title: S&S Twin Cam Motor Case 310-0369
Post by: Ohio HD on September 27, 2021, 05:55:08 PM
S&S 310-0369 TC cases for '07 to '16 touring bikes. These are stock HD bolt pattern, bored for S&S 4.125" cylinders, has a Timken installed.

Aside from drilling the case for oil passages to the transmission case, are there any other modifications or special attention that needs to be addressed to use standard TC components to build from scratch?

No issues using HD heads utilizing OEM crank breathing?

I didn't mod the heads when I built my 117 with those cases.

Are you building a 117 or 124?

Figures, back ordered until at least mid November.

But I can wait. I need to have John build a crank yet anyway.

I've donehttps://harleytechtalk.com/htt/Smileys/default/turd.gif a number of early and late TC engines on S&S cases. Simple swap/install. When drilling the 3 holes in the rear of later cases, put a steel rod up through the holes that you want to drill, so when you're trying to reach the break through, you don't go to far. As soon as the drill bit hits the rod, remove rod and drill a tiny bit more. The break through hole may not be round = No sweat.

Before I call S&S and ask them, does anyone know for sure which piston oiler jets come with these cases?

The parts breakdown for these cases lists in prentices the OEM HD piston oiler 22307-99 which is for 4-3/8" stroke wheels. The S&S number they list is correct, 31-2026 which is for 4-5/8 stroke wheels. I just wonder if they printed in error, or they actually are sending the OEM 22307-99 HD oilers? The HD part number for piston oilers to be used with 4-5/8" stroke is 22315-06A.

You can see in the photos the oil port for the 4-5/8" oiler is below the mounting screws. The OEM piston oiler, the port is level to the mounting screws.

That's not an S&S part number. It's not listed in the S&S price book.

However on the page you sent the link for it does say "Model #31-2026" which is the S&S number for piston oilers 0.150" deeper for longer stroke motors.

Thanks Phil, I looked under DS, but didn't think to check Tucker.

The form of the jet is different to accommodate the FW, but where the jet sprays under the piston should be at the same area anyway??? I'm curious to find out the answer also.

A motor with a longer stroke, say 4.375" goes to 4.625" that's 0.250" increase, divide by 2 is 0.125". So the piston goes higher 0.125" and lower 0.125". There's the 0.250" stroke increase. So the piston oilers need to be lower in the case or the piston will hit them. So they get lowered by 0.150".

In both cases the flywheel isn't in the way.

While on the topic, I put a few of the part numbers in a sheet for reference.

Will the Harley 120R jets work?

HD 22315-06A is used in the 120r motors. My guess is all of the oilers for increased stroke are made by Jim's. But that's just a guess.

I've used 120R jets in most MoCo 124" conversions. Never had a problem.

Just FYI, the S&S 4-1/8 bore cases do come with the correct piston oilers, the S&S 31-2026 items.
