Wire in the six speed sensor, and if the speedo is off, adjust the PPU with your tuner (TTS/PV/DL).

The sensor needs to be precisely placed. It might, it might not  work, or it might work but unreliably.  If there is a mechanical difference, I'd put the correct sensor in and adapt the wiring.

I purchased an 06 speed sensor. It fits into the 07 trans just fine.

The difference between the two sensors is on the 06 sensor the part that fits into the transmission (07) is shorter in length than the 07 sensor. The diameter n bolt hole are the same.

So now I am wondering if the 06 sensor, being shorter, will pick up the signal?

I agree it would be nice to get a professional that knows what he is doing. That's what I thought I was doing the first time I had it dyno'd.

I may not get every last bit of power out of it, but at this point I just want to fix this idle issue. Back in the day I used to swap jets out and adjust the carb this way and didn't know any better. I can always put the original tune back in and bring it to a tuner.

I did call one tuner that I trusted and he told me to sell the bike.

If it fits, mechanically, it will probably work fine. Certainly won't hurt to try.

"My local HD service advisor told me that they've installed several hundred of these heads"

That alone would have me thinking that service advisor was handing out a load. :turd:

Replacing a 5 with a 6 has been done of course but I couldn't find a quick reference for you through our Search engine. You might try that on your own.

Different part #'s but could you not install the 06 sensor in the 07 Trans? Eliminates cutting any harness and the ECM will need to be "massaged" by HD or - if aftermarket, by you anyway.

First of all...I'm no Expert.
However, looking at HD Parts Manuals the 06' and 07' Speed Sensors are two different Parts Numbers.
The 06' Sensor is #74430-00D.
The 07' Sensor is #74402-05B.
Shooting from the hip here, but something tells Me that the 06' Sensor won't be accurate in the 07' Tranny.
But I could certainly be wrong.
Could be a question answered by an HD Dealer.

General / Speed Sensor

I posted this same question on another HD forum and have not received a response. I am hoping to get some expert advice from the pros on this site.

The bike I am working on has an 07 6-speed transmission. The bike itself is an 06 Night Train. The wiring harness is an 06 NT.
Situation: in order for the receptacle at the end of the speed sensor to match up with the wiring harness I'm using an 06 speed sensor (5-speed box).
Question: Will using a 5-speed sensor on a 6-speed trans work?
Or should I graft the 5-speed receptacle end onto the 07 speed sensor?

Quote from: hrdtail78 on November 20, 2023, 08:49:00 AMBeen a couple years but I converted a 02 to a closed loop system.  I changed ecm.  Married it, and ran the new wires for sensors.  Then tuned it with a 176 level cal.

Great. I may be in the need of your assistance getting a couple builds dialed in. I'm just down the road from you in northeast Arkansas 👍.

Did you ever get this going?  As a few others have mentioned, You could easily convert that bike to use o2 sensors.  BEst route imo is to get a few parts from an 06.

I recently ( 2 years )did this to my 2001 Road King.  I had a secret weapon though, the Guidence of a senior Forum member for part fitments. I documented most of the process over on CVO harley I could probably also move that over here.  It's.. kind of a guide.. in ways.  I got most of my parts from ebay, i think I spent around $500, most expensive being the fuel pump.( Not including the tuner and o2 sensors).  Just to name a few parts you will need, Fuel pump, Speedo, throttle body, injectors, o2 bungs, o2 sensors, ECU etc.  If your mechanically inclined, its a pretty easy straight forward process.

I went with the TTS Master tuner route. and did my own tuning.  YOu can build a base map in just an hour. Or i could share mine.  Runs amazing. So happy to drop the Magnetti Marelli system.
