Title: Rocker Arm End Clearance
Post by: billbuilds on November 05, 2008, 07:52:49 AM
The shop manual shows a spec of between .004 and .025 for rocker arm end clearance. The .004 would seem to me a bit too tight and the .025 way too loose. What kind of clearance do you guys use that allows for heat expansion yets also makes for a fairly quiet top end? I have personally used up to .011 with roller rockers and seemed ok to these ears. Thanks, Bill

my top end was really bad so i replaced the rockers, shafts and spacers
after assembly the intake spacing was at 8 and exhaust was 12 its the
quietest i have ever had for a shovel and that's with no shims

I'm with Pappy. We do 'em on a lathe at the shop and shoot for .008 to .010.
