Friend has an older V-Rod (guessing 2004) and has to replace his battery on an annual basis.  Discussing it with friends has come to a possible conclusion that since the battery is on its side, that the area for flaking of the battery is very small and that the flakes could be shorting out the batter prematurely.  I'm suggesting that it may be a voltage regulator problem but am too far away from him to be able to run tests.

Does anyone think that since the battery is on its side, that it could be the source of the problem?

Suggestions/thoughts welcome.

My original V-Rod battery went 7 years, the second only lasted 1 year(dealer gave me a new one) and I have had that one for 4 years now. Keep it on a tender unless you ride it every week.

Got over 2 on mine with no issues so far. Don't think being on it's side would be any worse then cooking in the oil tank of a softail.
