Title: Guide hole size
Post by: ricochet on May 18, 2009, 12:09:24 PM
Does anyone have the stock dimention for the intake and exhaust guide holes as new?  I know the stock size guide is .644 OD but would like to know the ID of the hole itself.

Nowhere have I been able to find the guide hole size listed but let me ask in a different way.  The manual says "tight press fit" for guides in the head.  What exactly is tight press fit?  I'd hate to use a .002 interference fit and crack the head itself.  Manual doesn't have a spec for this specific area that I can find.

In cast iron, .002 tight fit on a guide is perfect (up to .004 in aluminum), as long as you preheat the head & oil up the guide as you "push" it in (not hammer). Then you ream or hone to size.
