Title: Common oil leak locations?
Post by: Molly on June 19, 2022, 02:21:00 AM
Tinkering with an 02 1200 (converted from 883). After a ride it recently started dripping oil from around the front left side. It's definitely getting worse and I can't seem to track it down. The area around the stand and all along the bottom left frame rail get very wet.

Just wondered if this rings any bells with other Sportster owners? If there's maybe a part / seal in that area that's prone to leaking.

Thank you in advance.

Oil leaks generally are NOT common.
Clean the front, rear, and the leak area real well. Make a shield out of cardboard, and tape it in front of the area in question (wind blocker). Get a can of spray powder, spray the area, and go for a slow ride until you see the oil stain.

Thank you for the tip. Found the leak. Small area of the primary gasket.  It was flowing down when running and getting everywhere.

Back on the road this weekend.
