Title: Valve train noise 2010
Post by: 1stop on September 01, 2022, 01:02:59 PM
Have in the shop, 2010, with se1200 kit (heads, cyls)already.  Installed n4 andrews cams, and when its hot, ft cylinder at rockerbox is noisy (very)!!!. Don't see many xls in shop. Didn't ride bike before work was done. Anybody run into this problem? What to look for? Thanks

Maybe they have the intake and exhaust pushrods switched out on that cylinder. The exhaust is longer than the intake.

Dealing with 4 cams and 4 pushrod adjustments (assuming you're using adjustable p/rods), can be a patience killer. Also cam base circles get in the game as well. It used to be so bad, that Andrews would fit the cams to your cam cover if you sent the assembly to them. Also be sure you're not dealing with piston slap.

Just curious, longer, but the correct length? 10.800"

Were new lifters used? Try swapping lifters intake position to exhaust position?

The manual I have is for 2015 XL's. They state the intake would be orange (10.746") and the exhaust would be purple (10.800")

Info from:
2015 Harley-Davidson Sportster Models Service Manual 99484-15

Push rod part numbers are for both 2010 and 2015, as well as several other years. 883 and 1200.

Found problem, took ft rocker cover off and started bike. No oil feeding through rocker arm. Long story short, took oil tank feed line off pump. Darn horse fly came out. Oil pressure gauge read 15 lbs, but was slow building up. Thanks for replies.

That bike had to be sitting around for awhile torn down. Glad you found it.
