Title: need to know correct fluids and capacities for 1997 883 Hugger
Post by: gryphon on June 02, 2015, 01:09:47 PM
 My son needs to know the correct fluids and levels for the above bike. Need oil type (20-50?) and amount, plus tranny and primary. I appreciate the help.

To answer your question(s):
Engine takes a little over 2-1/2 qts HD says 3 qts but I don't like to over fill.
Chain case .... 1 qt.
Transmission....... not sure.  :nix: ( I don't want to give you a bad answer)

Yes, 20w50 is good, try Mobile 1 Syn. What I use in my 1200, 07'.
I would suggest you get your hands on a HD manual, not a generic manual, it will answer most if not all your questions.
The answers you can't find, you will find here.  :up:

Thanks. My son's just helping out a buddy so I'd hate to invest in a manual I'll never open again.

Tranny and primary = same = 1qt Sport-Trans primary and gear oil.
