Title: Crankshaft Pinion Gear Timing Marks
Post by: Ohio HD on March 02, 2024, 10:34:50 AM
This should apply to either a Shovel or an Evo, so either info would be helpful. What I want to ask is what is the relationship of the pinion gear timing mark to the keyway location of the gear? In other words how many teeth away is the timing mark to the slot for the keyway?

A friend has a gear that's marked with two painted marks, but no engraved timing mark.

2 grooves to the right of keyway

This was, well is, the pinion gear in my 1994 FLHR.

Thanks, I'll send that to my friend. He got this bike with no camshaft in it, needs work, but it was a good deal since he got it for free.

Yes, 2 teeth, but the mark is between teeth, bottom groove.

I see that now in the photo. I guess my memory was that it was on the tooth.

My shovelhead has 2 marks, one for cam and one for breather.

I looked it up and it's the cam with 2 marks
