The Studs are an interface fit you my find the case thread is loose and the stud thread damaged. I've used 620 Loctite if things are not to bad. Worst I have used a stepped stud and taped the case to 5/8 . Best sent.

The 22-XE definitely has an aggressive idle. It sounds like its originating higher up. But it definitely could be. Thanks for the suggestion

Also, I meant Loctite 243.    :embarrassed:

If you can get the case and threaded hole dry enough, then an actual liquid thread sealant would be the best choice.

Well, I've had it wheels up once but not on purpose. I'll give it a try. Sure don't want to tear it all down if I don't have to....

do you have any old fibre and steel ?

I riveted some together to lock the clutch up so that the clutch nut can be removed

The fibre/steel is only at the outside edge of the basket for the pic, attempting to undo the nut with it in this position runs the risk of damaging the basket

it was pushed to the back of the basket when undoing the nut

Assemble the clutch. Then remove these four items. Parts 2, 6, 15, and 19. Then you can still access the #9 nut on the mainshaft and the clutch assembly will be solid. Then the entire clutch assembly comes off the transmission mainshaft.

Well, I started work to install a new drive belt after the old one broke on the highway.  I've done this twice before but I sure seem to have forgotten a lot so, asking for more help.  By the way, the service manual simply says that the clutch nut is a left hand thread and to block the primary chain.

It's a 2004 Dyna Wide Glide and I have the primary cover off as well as the compensating sprocket.  I know the clutch nut is left hand thread but how do you lock the clutch? I've removed the friction plates to gain access to the nut and I have the primary chain blocked but, when I apply pressure to the clutch nut, the inner clutch spins freely.  I'm thinking I have to lock the clutch inner and outer together by placing a hard plastic dowel through the inner and outer.  Again, the primary chain is blocked.

What am I missing?  Do I need to reinstall the friction disks?  I don't recall seeing the clutch nut through the center of the pressure plate.  I also have a VPC installed.
