Title: Head Identification
Post by: WhipLash96 on October 25, 2019, 03:10:43 PM
I am wondering if this head would be a good head to use or not? I can pick these up for pretty cheap. Thoughts?

A cursory search shows it's a '04-'06 1200 head, they're good heads.  Here's some good EVO XL head info:

So this head would require a different motor mount for a 96 and also the fins won't match up exactly?

Or you can have your OEM motor mount machined - when I put XB heads on my 1993 XL I had the OEM motor mount modified.  The fins is just a "cosmetic" issue and I wouldn't worry about it.

Unless it's a show bike. :hyst:

Does a show bike really need performance?     :nix:

The mount is part number 16689-05 and the list price is $17. I own a machine shop, and even I wouldn't bother modifying the stock piece to save seventeen bucks.

So will cylinders from an 04 and up fit on a 96 case?
