Short story: BIL bought his 1st HD last year after riding everything but an HD for the last 40 years. He doesn't keep a bike very long but wanted more torque so I did a 96" to 103" upgrade with the 255 cams with parts I had lying around. A set 103 cylinders were honed and new rings installed.
Didn't want to spend $1000 for a tuner and dyno tune when I know the bike will be gone by next year!
So, BIL had the dealer do the ECM flash for the 103/255 cams before he brought it over for me to do the install. I had extra ACRs and decided to install them too for warm/hot starts. Mega Flo machined the heads for the ACRs and I installed the 70623-08 ACR Harness
Question: Can I leave the ACRs unplugged at the head and heat cycle? and then have the ACRs turner on at the ECM?
Per instructions: Installation of this kit requires a calibration update using Digital Technician. Failure to download calibration update before starting motorcycle will result in ACR failure.
Calibrate the ECM before connecting the ACR overlay harness connectors to the ACR solenoids in the cylinder heads.

For the ACRs to work, you need to enable them. It's a setting in the map. If you have them enabled and disconnect them, you'll get a check engine light and code thrown but it won't hurt anything. At least this has been my experience.

Thanks for the quick reply. Understood...they are NOT enabled now. I would have the dealer do that after I heat cycle it then lift the tank and connect.
If they are not enabled then you can leave them plugged in.
edit: While I believe the above to be true, it would be safest to unplug them. I don't think they would be held on by a non ACR map but I can't say that for sure. One of the tuners on the site would probably know for sure.
Will starting a 103 without acr cause undue stress on the starter and ring gear?
I think if it does the kick back and grind thing I would rethink hooking them up. If it does, IMO it is possibly saying the comp is getting weak. In other words, you get a bit of a comp test out of not hooking them up.

Hoss there are many 96 to 103 upgrades kit running without ACRs. They aren't required for this kit. That was my call from stories I've heard about starter kick back when hot. I just want to heat cycle the motor before taking it to the dealer to have them enabled.
