Do my best to describe what transpired on my last ride.
At highway speed (80 mph) bike starts making metal on metal grinding sounds.
I immediately pull in the clutch and the noise subsides some, Engine and Battery mock me with their presence. I limp the bike to a friends house and I haven't touched it since, that was 2 days ago.
Any ideas what I'm up against?

Cam chain tensioner may have bitten the dust. If you haven't already replaced them I would start looking there
Not much information to go on!
You need to do some trouble shooting! It could be engine, transmission, or something in the primary thar bit the dust. First thing pull the oil filter, cut it open and see what you find. If it is clean, the engine is probably ok, put on a new filter and start it up and listen for the tranny or primary for noise. If the noise stops when you pull in the clutch, might be the primary bearing behind the clutch. You may want to drain the oil out of each hole in a separate pan and see if you find metal shavings and go with what you find there.
Check some things over and get back and let us know what you find.
cam bearings ?
mine was an EVO, at temp it would make a sound similar, not when it was cold.
I cut open the oil filter and found brass medal flakes in there :cry:
2006 Dyna was notorious for losing bolts in the alternator rotor (inside primary, behind compensator assembly). Replacement rotor eliminates the bolts.
06 dynas had the 1st auto adjust primary chain shoe. I believe they has issues that 1st yr with inner primary bearings due to the adjuster. Another red-headed step child!!

Wasn't the issue poor dowel alignment in the primary-trans, causing IP bearing issues? Not so much the adjuster itself , although the original adjusters did get updated at least once or twice as time went on.

2006 dyna the adjuster would get to tight and take out the ipb. Like rigid also said they had screws that would come loose on the alt. The had the first year hyd tensioners . I welded my 2006 Dyna tensioner and re-did the screws with red Loctite and set them with a punch, both are still running in the bike. Remove the outer primary and look. Bob

IIRC the 06 Dyna's already has the Hydraulic.
