I did some mods to a known sumper this week and pulled the sumping volume back from 30oz/1000 miles to 6.5oz/1000 miles.

What's the consensus as to what constitutes a 'normal' M8 crankcase pool?
i.e. volume below the pickup.

Thanks, Pete.

check it at different times especially when motor gets really heated up to normal temp after at least 100 miles .  may make a difference to in how your riding,   the outside temp  .. many variables. some m8  vary  a huge amount in just a few miles  on how much oil is in the sump. pull the dip stick and its a tel all pay attention to how the power is.   they will fool you  is what I seen many times.  just pay attention  and good luck.
