Just when I thought I knew everything about shovels I got humbled. Just purchased a 1979 FLH 80 in all original condition, or so I thought. I'm in the process of doing everything to get it roadworthy and noticed that the front mag is a 10 spoke, and the rear is a 16 spoke mag. My question is did they come that way from the factory. I purchased it from the original owner and he says he never did anything with the wheels except put new tires on it, which was done at the dealer. This is a first for me. Thank You in advance.
Factory I believe is 16 spoke.

My '77 FLH had 16 spoke on front and rear. In fact I'm not sure I've ever seen a FLH with 10 spoke mags, aren't those used on FX's and XLs? Any chance you got a FX rear wheel on the front?

Way back when I had an 80' FLH. It also was 16 spoke on the front and rear from the Factory.
10 spoke mags are 87 and later, although my 87 FLHTP came with 16 spokers just like my 86 had.

My 78 FXS has 16 spoke on rear and a 9 spoke on front. Came from factory that way.
All hail AMF.
I guess when they're out of one wheel, they just use the wrong one. That or QC was lacking a lot. Parts catalogs don't show the wheel mix for FX or FL bikes. So they weren't supposed to be that way.
