I guess once the wheel is on the cam they really don't want to rotate. Still scary to think about.

I can't wait to see the tappet rollers and cams.

I've seen some of the pins with nicks from the lifters rocking left to right.

Was gonna leave it alone & ride it. But have a trip planned out west this July with oldest grandson & have free Cam's so I thought what the hell! Glad I did the way I ride sometimes who knows what could have happened. I'm sure the 75 year old I bought it from didn't turn it much past 3000 rpm.

Someone somewhere was saying "What the heck are these leftover pins for?   Maybe someone is screwing with my head.  :nix:

That's probably what saved the motor from any severe damage.

These pins are from a 117" running it really hard most of the time. You can see where the lifter body had made marks into the pins from rocking back and forth.

I am also curious the oil. Not to start an oil debate or anything, but positive or negative experience from first hand experience can sure help a lot of people.  Looks like the previous owner got him a " built Friday" engine.

Friend has 03  rking bought new. At 20,000 motor started hammering.Indy pulled apart.  No rotation pins from factory. This was 10 years ago, must have been a Monday motor.

Friday motor would be something hanging by a string in the gas tank to make an odd noise.
Monday motor is usually missing and loose parts.
