Title: Timing gear lock rings genny shovel?
Post by: Reddog74usa on October 19, 2019, 11:31:39 AM
I'm putting together the cam chest on my 68 FLH genny shovel and do not see a groove for the snap ring to set in on the shafts for the timer and idle gears. I seem to remember the grooves being there for these rings on other years, so did they stop using the snap rings on the shafts in later years or did someone change out the shafts at one point on this bike? Basically what I'm asking is are there supposed to be grooves on these shafts on a 68?

I don't recall ever seeing any in a generator timing case.

Yep I was in the parts book and saw the same thing. What I found was the later models with the large spacers do not use them. This bike was so cobbed I am checking every detail as I bring her back to being a decent bike. They should have been tarred n feathered for the things they did to this bike. It's a long road to make her right but there ain't no quit in this Ol Dog.
