Title: 1997 Wide Glide, Part 2
Post by: Sinker on May 08, 2019, 02:32:47 PM
I finally got this bike out for a shakedown ride after giving it a good cleaning. I took a good test drive when I bought it but today I heard a light knocking and light ticking. My mechanic can't squeeze me in until May 30th, which sucks. The good news is that the paint on this looks brand new and the chrome is really in good shape. Hopefully the motor isn't too big of a deal to get right, guessing will see ina few weeks.

The light ticking probably isn't a big deal, rocker lockers may fix it if it bothers you, and remember that it is a geared cam and pinion clacking in there too.. The light knocking may or may not really be anything, sometimes we hear things that aren't really a problem. I would ride it until your mechanic can put an ear to it, if it gets worse before then, you'll know it and deal with it.

If you have the cam cover off, check for runout on the pinion shaft.

It's pretty rare for Evos to go out, isn't it?

Noises can come from just about anywhere. I chased a knock for weeks on a new Superglide years ago, cleaning the wheels one day found the front brake rotor loose, knocked against the hub, and sounded like it was coming from the engine.

Brain fart, that is a Twin Cam failure point.
