Title: 2011 ultra limited shocks
Post by: brent on March 18, 2024, 12:17:27 PM
should 11 inch shocks be okay and not have any clearance problems

I believe the stock shocks are 13", Street Glide shocks are 12". 11" shocks would be pushing the limit. They'll fit, but likely have very poor performance.

You'll prolly bottom out quite a bit more depending on weight and passenger

Why you want to use 11 inches shocks? On my FLTRX I did the opposite, went from 11 to 13 3/8 custom made shocks for more comfort. You will lose precious travel that Harley shocks don't have much already. If you are after having both feet flat on the ground could try a lower profile seat.

If you do 12" Legends and set the SAG at 1/2 inch, that will get you down to 11.5" and still have a good ride, would not recommend going lower than that.

I can say that the Sundowner seat helped me sit lower and reach the ground a little easier with my stubs for legs. It is also a quite comfortable seat and my wife likes it too when riding pillion.

I've been using White Bros Rear Lowering Kit on the rear shocks for the past 30 years on 4 different Dressers.

'91 Electra Glide Sport
'03 Electra Glide Classic
'10 Electra Glide Ultra Classic
'13 Electra Glide Ultra CVO

Of the above 4, only the '91 had an issue that the shock rubbed the inner side of the saddlebags and 4 washers took care of this issue.  I've never felt a change in handling, bottoming out, etc., just able to place my feet comfortably flat on the pavement (Mission Complete!)

I've also used the lowering kit on my '12 Ultra, it works well, shock doesn't bottom out, gave me an inch of lowering. That, along with the seat made the bike much more comfortable at stops.
I currently run SuperShox, 14" that ride at 13", with their lowering kit, putting it at 12" with a much better ride than stock shocks, especially stock shocks with the lowering kit.

Same results here but I installed the (bully?) rear lowering kit years ago.

put 11 inch progressive 412 s on rides rougher but it lowered it so far no clearance problems
