Title: mallory distributor 556
Post by: echd215 on July 23, 2023, 01:56:37 PM
Anyone have any experience with setting the initial timing with S&S flywheels. Using TDC or the Advanced mark for setting base to get started.

If you look 14 threads before this posting you will see a conversation that mentions the Mallory Ignition.  The poster mentioned doing a search here on HTT that brought up lots of useful info.  Go to the HTT search and give it a try.

The link below is for the Mallory A556 setup sheet. They recommend timing it at full advance just like a standard HD points distributor or even the points in a nose cone motor.

I used to time the Dyna S ignitions the same way, at the full advance I was going to run.

echd, it's Mallory A557 that uses TDC for initial setting up because they have electronic advance whereas A556 have mechanical advance mechanism so using full advance mark for these is more logical. In any/either case, double checking with strobe light would be smart money.
