Title: Yup, exhaust question...
Post by: Finn on June 06, 2021, 09:23:12 AM
 Hello.

So, the FLSTC 103 HO now has CR570-2, air cleaner kit and Supermeg 2-1 with 35 discs. It has been tuned with Power Vision.

I'm quite happy how it runs and behaves but even though the Supermeg is not the loudest pipe it is starting to annoy me a bit.

I have been considering putting the original headers on and using a pair of Khrome Werks 3" HP Plus mufflers.

Are we perhaps talking about losing a couple of hp/tq or more?

You might lose a bit of torque and HP, but probably not enough to notice. A retune might be in order. I am not sure how quiet the Krome Werks mufflers are compared to what you have.

For what it is worth the last couple baggers I had I ran cams and no cat head pipes with stock mufflers. They still had decent performance and didn't rattle my brains on a long ride.

This alternative starts to sound quite interesting.

I haven't heard Khrome Werks "live" myself but there is for example this video in Youtube. I wouldn't say no to that sound.

If your after a more traditional sound go for it but IMO the KW HP mufflers are louder than a Super meg with the needed number of disc for your 103 with a cam.  Not sure your 103 needs more than 24 disc/closed cap...Maybe some tuners will chime in.

Supertrapp says 24 discs (with a closed end) outflow the core, 24 might even be a few more than it needs

KW makes a quieter baffle for those mufflers if needed

Ordered a pair of Khrome Werks tapered mufflers and booked some dynotime for next week to check the tune.

I'll let you know how they sound. For under 400,- Euros a pair they were a bargain, IMO.

Average person will not notice the difference.

If you want more seat of the pants, lower your gearing, you won't notice any power loss. Softail s are geared way too high anyway.

These have a nice deep growl, not too loud in any way. Traditional, you could say.

Hp and tq both were almost the same as with Supermeg but that may be because of improving the Power Vision map a bit - was a tad rich in my opinion.
