Title: Intake seals: remove throttle cables or remove whole plate?
Post by: 1982fxr on June 08, 2021, 04:06:25 PM
1995 fxdwg, pretty new to me.  Having my first go round with intake seal issues.  Manual on the way from ebay, not sure what it will say.

Do you guys find it easier to leave the throttle cables in the throttle plate and unscrew the whole plate from the carb, or remove the cables and leave the plate on?

Also, the intake flanges on the bike when I got it both had some warping.

I bought new factory harley ones and one right out of the package was just as warped as the ones that came off the bike.

Anyone run into that before?

I've always removed the cables.
Can't help with the flanges.

Why remove the cables? I let the carb hang by the cables.

just be careful not to scratch up the rocker covers.

Could do that too.

I have done that also.  One of those tiny cloth covered bungie cord and or a piece of wire.  No need to stress out the cables.

I use Crown Royal cloth bags to place carburetors, brake calipers, etc. in to keep from damaging paint and chrome.
