Title: 2000 FLHPI, sudden oil carryover air cleaner
Post by: xlfan on June 18, 2021, 05:48:34 AM
It is ages ago this was a topic, I don't remember the what usually was the root cause for this condition.

The first thing to do (aside from underfilling oil tank a quart quart), would be to replace the umbrella valves and filters in the breathers.

There was som talk about case pressure leak through pinion bearing, and oil pump alignment.

Has anyone seen this sudden condition? And around the cause(s)?

Take the time to drill the drain holes in the rocker stands to .125 and radius the top of the new hole when you have them removed.

QuotePlastic Breathers?

That was absolutely the cause of mine, and it was sudden.  99 and 00 models should have metal breathers but mine had suffered a rear cam bearing failure and the "repair kit" the dealer used had plastic ones.  Heat makes them warp, the screws get loose and you know the rest.

Is it these 2 drain holes you refer to as in the rocker stand?

2000 has metal breathers. Blow back through the breathers, will they go back? They are a one way valve. If yes replace the umbrellas.

Yes those are the holes. I did my 01 with the updated breathers and drilled and radius the holes. Breathing external and rarely see a drop out of the breather.
