1994 FLHR, rear shocks - the rubber boot covers covering the lower part of the shocks are cracked. I see aftermarket replacements available but they are all listed as fitting FLH 1997-2013.
The rear shocks used by 1993-1996 FLH (incl. my 1994 FLHR) are 54531-92.
The rear shocks used by 1997- FLH are 54565-97 (give or take a suffix).
Does anyone know if there is a dimensional difference of the outer body of a 54531-92 and 54565-97?
Or do you know the dimensions of the outer body of a 54565-97?
I kind of suspect they are very similar, if not identical, and thus I should be able to use one of those replacement booties that are spec'd to fit FLH 1997-2013.
Mine measure about 2.74 inches (about half way down) and are from a 99 FLHT, I have replaced the boots on mine. It's easy.

The size/diameter of the shock body is probably the most important size, so the rubber bootie will fit and fit snugly. If 54531-92 is thinner than 54565-97 then the bootie may not seal.
I don't think the length is that important since even if the lengths are different the bootie stretches in that direction. And the size of the bushing probably doesn't matter that much and both of those shocks use the same bolt so size if probably same or close.

Thanks - my 54531-92 also measures approx. 2.74". So I'll go ahead and get some aftermarket rubber booties that are spec'd to fit 54565-97A and they'll probably fit my 54531-92 as well.

- 54531-92 (used 1991-1996)
- 54565-97A-C (used 1997-2008)
I saw that my 54531-92 has a sticker w/ 54532-85 on it - so (likely) same shock absorber component as used 1985-1990.]

Glad to hear that. Simply remove the bottom bolt and you can rotate the shock away and change the boot. A little soapy water on the bottom eyelet and on the rubber part and it should slip on easily. Do one at a time so your swingarm doesn't drop.
