Title: 1998 FLHRI, MM EFI
Post by: xlfan on September 09, 2021, 06:03:41 AM
No start condition, just one or two ignited strokes and then dead.

Cam position sensor melted and replaced with an earlier version w/o tip sensor , no difference in behaviour.

Is it possible to do a function check on the bench for the crank position sensor? (My Scanalyzer died last year)

Did you have any rough or unusual running characteristics before the no-start condition?

Yes, when warm, erratic idle and dying,  hence the replaced melted CMP

Rough running at idle is a typical sign of head temp sensor going bad...very common in these bikes...jimmy

:agree:  That's where I was headed.  There will also be no code if it occurs.

ET sensor is showing correct (same V as given in table for actual outside air temp) and consistence voltage at startup, but no more then 1 to 3 sparks

Does anyone know if the older style ignition pickup (CMP) w/o tip sensor, will have a problem running with the 5V supply from ECM?

That would be CMP 32400-94
