Title: 62504-65A oil tank
Post by: 2CLK1 on September 19, 2021, 07:45:17 AM
My oil tank had a slow leak at the bottom support and after several attempts
to braze the leak, the tank showed it's age ( not unlike me ) so I'm looking
for a replacement.
Would prefer an original, but until I locate one are there
any aftermarket tanks that are worth the money so I can at least ride
till I do.

Why not take it off, clean it out well, and have it professionally Tig welded?

That is also an option and thank you for your reply.
The leak was one of the welds attaching the bottom support to
the tank, the attempt to repair was a valiant effort but the tank
showed it's age.

My hope is to find a tank to replace it but in the mean time I am
considering an aftermarket tank.

Aftermarket tanks are all about the same. In my experience they're not as robust as the OEM tank is. I myself would rather find a used OEM in good condition.

There are a few on ebay. I see one for $25 +$15 shipping, but it is chrome. I could be and am very likely wrong, but I think the chrome ones are aftermarket.

Grant it the stock tank would be my choice, aftermarket not what I really want but if it gets
me on the road until I locate a decent HD tank I can live with it.

Every thing I've seen on Ebay looked questionable at best, I would like to stay away
from anything Tedd has to offer. Are all the aftermarket V-twin ? does anybody know
of one they had good luck with.

Brazing thing of the past.... I'm there with it.  ;-)

I am sure only one place makes all the aftermarket stuff, demand is to small
