Title: 5TH Gear Oil Seal
Post by: Wide Glide on March 22, 2021, 10:22:12 AM
Any solutions on removing oil seal from the 5th gear with the mainshaft still installed?
I leery on drilling a hole into the small sidewall of the seal to pry it out.

POC , nothing there to hurt
the fix-it kit will come with a new tapered seal holder as you SHOULD replace the square ring seal right behind that.
It will take you two minutes longer( and proilly the source of your leaks)

I bought just the hardened hook (spare part) of the Lisle 58430 Seal Puller (Walmart) and made the rest of the tool myself.

Ive had good success with 2 dental picks with little 90°angles on the end.slip in sideways between seal and mainshaft, rotate bends 90°up and work seal out.

I have always had good luck pushing in with a small screw driver along the outer edge; the seal will rock and push out on the opposite side. Then you can use a small pick to pull it out. Careful not to scratch the sealing surfaces.

Coat the drill bit with bearing grease and get it done.
