Title: Normal Compression
Post by: 1972XlchBobber on March 10, 2009, 08:15:08 PM
OK, I bought this basket case 9:1 compression 1972 Ironhead last fall, finally got the transmission installed and got to do a compression test.

I got 123 psi in both cylinders taken Wide open throttle, cold, no choke, with airfilter.

What would be normal for a 1972?

Any references?

Thanks, Mike

i don't have any references off hand... but that sounds good enough to run it and see.  i defenitely wouldn't tear down top end for numbers like that.  One thing that strikes me, how did you get exact same reading?  They should be close, but I wouldn't expect the same on both, unless your gauge just happens to stop there......

i agree with ibarider. not sure on least acceptable numbers, but consistency is what your looking for, I'd run em.
