I've done it twice on two different 07's following the SM procedure which calls for pulling the gear set so unless someone has developed a secret tool......

It's not hard, assuming basic knowledge, a SM & common sense - well, except for that pesky inner race (deep score with Dremel & split with chisel).

Get dirty!   :SM:

If you're talking about the bearing the main drive gear rides in. #8996A? No- pull the pipes, primary, inner bearing race, & trans gearset, the you can remove the MDG, and then , finally, R&R the MDG bearing.

I have an '06 screaming eagle 6-speed transmission with bad main shaft bearing. Am I able to remove and replace that bearing without pulling out the gear set or pulling trap door?

Twin Cam / Re: Help identifying pistons

Contact JE Pistons. Give them the info, including that they were used with Branch heads (year, cu. in. and model). they should be able to give you the info. The sheet should look like this one. These were pistons I designed for turbo-charged Twin Cams when they first came out.

I saw this tool and had to have it. It allows you to jam the rear sprocket and chain to remove sprocket bolts, or the countershaft sprocket nut. Only thing about it is it's aluminum, so you wouldn't want to pound on it with impact tools unless you are holding good tension on the chain to keep it tight.

It works with 520, 525 and 530 chains.
