Title: Jet sizes
Post by: dubepj on September 20, 2023, 09:03:54 AM
1997 FXDWG.  Totally stock except for high flow air cleaner. (Arlen Ness) and high flow pipes (Supertrapp).
Bike is new to me so did not take carb apart to check jet sizes yet.  Starts/Runs real good until gets up to speed then bogs a bit.  Gets lousy MPG. Gets about 135 miles before I have to go to reserve. What size jets do you recommend for better economy and good performance.  Bike only has 10500 miles so not worn out.

Has the idle mixture screw been accessed and adjusted?
You're probably going to have to check jets to see if they've been changed, and also if the needle has been changed, and go from there.
What is the mpg?
Assuming a 4 gallon tank, reserve is 1/2 gallon, 135 miles รท 3.5 gallons = 38.5 mpg, not horrible.

Is the choke sticking partially open?
