Title: What size is fairing cig lighter opening? Looking for compatible USB outlet
Post by: dmdrider03 on February 11, 2020, 02:44:38 PM
Anyone know what size the inner fairing hole is for the cigarette lighter. Nothing coming up on a search.
Some say they have enlarged there oem fairing hole to accommodate a USB port. Seems to be various sizes available online e.g. marine and mc application.
Would prefer a "plug and play" as opposed to modifying my painted inner fairing. (2003 FLHTCUI)
Thanks in advance.

(I already various interfaces for my battery tender plug and other)

Instructions have you use a 7/8" hole saw to install the housing for the power point, so maybe this (https://www.amazon.com/Charger-RAVPower-Adapter-iSmart-Compatible/dp/B071FHZRQN/ref=sxin_2_osp22-7173018f_cov?ascsubtag=7173018f-b911-445f-a0d5-9e3a116510ab&creativeASIN=B071FHZRQN&crid=YZ5WEAI7M6QF&cv_ct_cx=car+usb+charger&cv_ct_id=amzn1.osp.7173018f-b911-445f-a0d5-9e3a116510ab&cv_ct_pg=search&cv_ct_wn=osp-search&keywords=car+usb+charger&linkCode=oas&pd_rd_i=B071FHZRQN&pd_rd_r=e990f21a-44f3-4ebb-980b-0f3ad728ff86&pd_rd_w=iSD9h&pd_rd_wg=xIAYI&pf_rd_p=eb3e5cda-5ec9-4d94-919d-310a5d641b8b&pf_rd_r=R22H9GKQX7GXJJHAKK6H&qid=1581522598&sprefix=car+usb+%2Caps%2C190&sr=1-1-32a32192-7547-4d9b-b4f8-fe31bfe05040&tag=reviewedoap-20) would be easier?

Thanks. I saw that in the instructions for the power point installation on a side cover.
Still doesn't confirm the existing hole size in the inner fairings. I haven't taken my fairing apart yet and was going to place an order for an outlet. I was asking for someone that would have knowledge about the fitment after doing a similar upgrade.

Both ports are 3 amp, and backwards compatible with 1 and 2 amp devices.

Have to do a little trimming but no biggie

The problem with those USB ports is that connection doesn't hold up well to the bike environment (vibration etc). If it's something to be mounted on the bars, I prefer an power cord like this one (https://www.amazon.com/Hardwire-Charger-Direct-Charging-Cameras/dp/B07CHNGH6R/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=MICRO+USB+CHARGER+CABLE+12V&qid=1581548091&sr=8-4).

That is what I use to charge my phone when on trips. $2 at Dollar General did 4700 miles without a problem.
