Any suggestions on rocker arms/shafts other than OEM? Don't need anything fancy, just something that will work well.
S&S
S&S has decent quality replacements.
shafts - 90-4006
rocker arm RE/FI non-roller - 900-4119RA
rocker arm FE/RI non-roller - 900-4119FA
They do but they look to be WAY more $$. Was just wondering if there are any more cost effective than stock. Have no problems with the stock ones.
if not going with rollers or changing ratio,no reason to use anything but OEM

Couple hundred thousand on the old ones....OEM. Could rebush them but don't have a reamer and just a tad lazy...
It seems if they lasted a couple hundred thousand miles, OEM would be a good choice again, especially if this is not a high performance, high rpm motor. Can't complain about that kind of service.
Yeah, just loose...new shafts 'n Rocker Lockers going in. I was just wondering if someone else made a more cost effective rocker to save a couple pennies....
Because they were re-designed in the early 80's when the Moco was trying to rise above their bad rep for dependability, they are actually over built. Because they are a simple design and relatively inexpensive to produce they are one of the few things that neither the bean counters or aftermarket can cut cost on.

Sorry, I'm not following your post. Are you saying the S&S rockers and shafts are of better quality and would be worth looking for at a lower price?
Or are you saying that there are still better choices out there?

And again....shop around
also...the S&S rocker arms have 3/4" long bushings in them.
The factory rocker arms have 1/2" long bushings in them.
I picked up a complete set of new S&S non roller rocker arms last year off E-Bay for $180.00 shipped to my door.
Like John said...you just have to shop around. You can find deals on them.
