Title: Cold start valve train noise
Post by: Cvosjoe on January 18, 2021, 03:17:26 PM
Installed a new set of Woods Alpha Series lifters in my 126ci M8 that I did a year ago. Started getting some cold start valve train noise that started around 8k. It would only last a few seconds but after another 2k miles it was taking longer for the noise to go away. Heads have the Woods high lift springs so probably harder on the lifters. Nice and quiet again so we'll see if this set lasts longer.

So, basically 10k out of a set of lifters?

I have two years with those Alpha lifters in my 124" and it's been dead quite on startups.

I'll let you know in another 10k. I've used them in other builds and never had any issues.

I have them in my 13 CVO King for several years now.  Still less noise than Stock.

They are also in my 19 CVO Road Glide, 21K miles now.

The cumulative valve spring load is high on an M8. I now use a spring that are reasonable rate and can be compared to twin cams single spring setup. I am currently using Morel US lifters.

So is there a lifter you would recommend, based on the math? Eg. Would you
Use an LS7 chev lifter?
