No jetting changes needed after switching to stock single plug heads. I did have to add a little more advance to the timing.

After I moved from Phoenix (1100 ft) to Reno (4500 ft) I did drop one jet size on the slow and main jets.

Quote from: CraigArizona85248 on May 01, 2024, 08:22:58 PMBoth sets have small cracks in the return oil gallies that allow oil to just sleep through to the outside of the heads. I decided they just aren't worth sinking more money into them.

Depending on where the crack is, sometimes it can be an easy fix. If it is leaking by tke long straight hole you can drill it and insert a piece of tubing with a little bit of epoxy. If it's leaking where the long diagonal hole meets the short vertical hole, it gets more complicated and usually involves grinding and welding and re-drilling.

Both sets of heads have the tubing inserts already. They lasted a lot of years that way. But that's not working anymore.

I use a 6 jaw chuck, and made an angle/taper aluminium slug in the rear/id of the cylinder with a true flat area to indicate off of and center hole. I use this with a dial indicator on a live tailstock. 100 % accuracy. Love the mandrel, but way out of my price league.

Here's a link that shows what I use now. It goes between centers.

Mandrel

I don't think I paid that much, I found a whole set that went from 1/2" to something over 4" a long time ago. Prior to that I held the head end of the cylinder in the headstock chuck and supported the base end with a rotating 3MT chuck in the tail stock. Here's a link to that.

Chuck

I didn't like expanding the jaws inside the base spigot, I was worried about distorting or cracking it. That's why I switched to using the mandrel.

Fluff, only time I see them broke and only place I have seen them broke.  The index notches for injectors and I blame this on poor maintenance practices.

My biggest problems with crate motors.  In the end.  You have a crate motor.  Now offering unassimilable and a couple things off the list like pistons and cams.  Now we are building performance.

Quote from: SP33DY on Yesterday at 08:00:26 AMI tried a few things that didn't work!

Now when I get an Evo cylinder with baked on gaskets, I use a mandrel to hold the cylinder in the lathe and carefully skim it off.

Got a picture of that mandrel?
