I have read that these cases bored to 4.250 weep at the cylinder base but would like some real world experience- good or bad.
I just picked up a set of these cases and figure go big or go home, lol.
Thanks

I think Mother is running 4.250" Hyperformance cylinders on an early set of cases. He may weight in with his experiences.

I haven't had that problem.
I have 1 coming in this week for a build. 2000 A cases, 124" S&S cylinders, and heads.
Bore cases, cam clearance cases, pinion bearing retainer.

What base gasket do you prefer John?

I ran a stock stroke over-square 114" in my 2001 Electra Glide.  4.250" bore.  No leaks.  Cometic base gaskets.  The cylinder base gaskets had the lifter block cover gaskets connected together all in one piece.

I use Cometic # C10066-020". 4 1/8" X 4.320" stock TC stud pattern. I use the factory drain back O-ring as well.
I also put an extremely thin wipe of Permatex Ultra-Black on the top of the case from case half seam to approx. under the spark plug area on any TC engine that I remove and install cylinders on. If a base gasket is involved, I put a thin wipe on the top side of it in the same area as the case.

Thanks for the reply John- I will do it exactly like that.
  Appreciate your expertise!

Out of curiosity what's the reasoning behind only partial ultra black coverage and are you talking about the back corner of the cylinder where the drain is? Thanks.

Back corner by drain back. It's called insurance.

I had the first stock stud pattern 124 that was done on B cases when I worked at S&S. I rode the bike 76,000 miles before I sold it. Still ran fine.

My 4.250" Hyperformance jugs are on S&S cases. On a stock HD case I wouldn't go over 4.125"
My stock case 124 longblock set up by Hyperformance took four years off serious abuse before it showed a lil wiping at the cylinder... And that included head swaps

OK, thanks for clearing that up. I was assuming they were stock HD cases.

are you asking about 4.125" or 4.250" cylinders? big difference as far as trying to seal the base goes.4.125 are not a problem,4.250 is where you can run into issues

Ohio HD

4.250" bore and 4-3/8" stroke is a 124".

Not a fan unless it is an S&S bolt pattern. Guys learned about these on the 114" 4" stroke motor popular years ago.

choseneasy

John straightened me out offline- I didn't word the question well.
Thanks all- I will keep it to 4 1/8  (4.125") cylinders

Yep, that's what I ran for lots of miles.  Stock bolt pattern.

If using 4.250" bore cylinders, PM cases studs, and Copper-Coat on the base gaskets seem to work well.
4.125" bore S&S cylinders have never had a history of seepage.
Just built a 131" for a local client......several thousand miles on it now....no issues, other than he now needs a rear tire.
