Title: Sticking Tach Needle
Post by: GeoRocket on September 11, 2020, 07:19:13 AM
Hello All -

1995 FLHT with 62k miles.  I am the original owner.
My tachometer needle sticks on occasion and does not indicate the proper RPM.  It does this at around 2200 RPM.  It started doing this last year.
When I gently tap on the tach, the needle "unsticks" and jumps to the proper reading.  This seems to indicate a mechanical problem with the tach needle/mechanics and not an electrical/electronic problem.  Bike runs great otherwise.  Tach is 67229-85 according to my parts catalog.

Does anyone have experience servicing/lubricating the tachometer mechanicals?
Any pointers?  What type of lube?
I am very hesitant to do this, but I will be removing my outer fairing for some other work so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance everyone.  I have learned so much on this forum; you folks are a great resource!

George

Hi Barney -
No.  I think the one you have pictured is from a later year.
Here is a pic of my tach.
It is part number 67229-85.
Thanks for the reply.
