Title: M8 front cylinder head gasket
Post by: Slider1950 on August 01, 2019, 09:38:47 PM
Today I was checking my 2018 Softail M8 for a ticking noise between 2500 to 3200 RPM. I was looking for exhaust leaks around the header flange and I found this. On the front cylinder right next to the front header flange I noticed the head gasket protruding out from between the header and the cylinder. I can't really tell if there is any leakage there but there is a yellow colored dust on the backside of the header and the front head is consistently 9 to 10 degrees hotter than the rear head when idling. Please take a look at the pics I have attached to see if you think this is an issue. These are the best pics I can get of the head gasket.

The M8 head gaskets protrude a little past the machined surfaces of the head/jug.

If you think its leaking, start it up and listen to that area with a length of heater hose.  If its leaking, you'll hear it.

The picture I posted is of a scooter on the lift.  Pipe is removed but still close to the motor.
