I have never used ny kind of retaining compound on crank pin tapers, sprocket shaft taper or pinion shaft taper.

Has anyone any experience using it?  Good or bad? It looks like S&S recommends it.

I've done it. After beating apart a set of S&S flywheels with it & seeing how good it worked I gave it a try. On new stuff it worked great. On rebuilds not so much. S&S torque specs used to be never tight enough. Put a 4' pipe on there & pull some more. I don't know what they recommend now.

If the tapers fit good then there would be no room for it.

Instructions on the old 5 pc wheels was clean and dry tapers.  Even oil residue from your fingers could cause the tapers to seat too deep. I would be afraid that any compound residue would tend to lube the pins and cause problems.

We do not use Loctite on the tapers of a any crankshaft assembly.
Clean and dry.
Loctite RC 620 on the crank pin nuts, and torqued to spec after balancing, then trued.
