Title: bike does wobble
Post by: iconicbikesrider on October 03, 2019, 02:58:18 PM
A friend, has a 2016 Ultra Limited. When he rides speed between 30 to 40 mph, if he let go of the handle bar, the bike does wobble. Under 30 MPH or after 40 MPH, the bikes rides true and fine including  when you let the handle bar go.
Any thoughts about this anomaly? Why this is happening? How to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Put an eyeball on the front tire, its probably cupping.

Many motorcycles are inclined to wobble at speeds between 30-45 mph, especially when decelerating, it is a speed when you should not let go of the bars...

richbiker and truck have you going in the right direction.

Steering neck bearing needs adjustment. My bike done the same until adjusted.

I've bought used bikes that did that real bad when slowing down, changed tires and all was good.

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this."
"Don't do that."

I agree about first adjusting the fork neck bearing.  However, I had a 2001 E-Glide that did exactly the same thing.  I adjusted the fork neck bearing, but made no difference.  What fixed it was tightening the rear swing arm.  My front end problem actually was caused by a rear end problem.  So, take a look there too.  Look at both.

Tires, neck bearings, swingarm bushings/bearings.

Also, make sure there isn't a bunch of extra weight in the backend.   I noticed when I took out the heavy toolbag I had in the saddlebag, it changed how the bike felt.

My 09 RG did the shake. Started slow and then increased violently. The "test" was 7 1/2 on the left and 6 1/2 on the right. Tightened neck bearing and it rides like it should now.

Mine too, the HD fall away method IMO is too loose .
