Title: Speedo
Post by: country50 on January 29, 2020, 10:58:48 AM
My mileage reset seems to have decide to tilt , looked like maybe a screw or rivet may have come loose. How do I go about opening and repairing it . Or can it be done . Needless to say it won't reset .

There is a tiny ass little screw that holds the knob on.

Does a replacement knob come with the screw?

Need to clarify. Is the knob still there but it doesn't turn the odo numbers?

Or is the knob gone?

BTW, my odo knob didn't have a plastic knob and screw like the Evos did, it was a one piece knurled metal shaft that threaded onto a threaded stub inside the speedo...

I suppose anything is possible, but just guessing that the cost would far exceed the price of a new speedometer.

The other ratio is 2240: 60 trans driven, at least it was on my Shovel

Frankly, I would not trust a used speedo, since what they used back then were kind of junky, and with the amount of vibration they are subject to, it's amazing they last as long as they do. I tend to like those new ones that are cable driven, but the speedo itself is electronic inside. So not as much wheels and gears to wear out. I hope!

This is what I was referring to:

[attach=0]

You connect the stock speedo cable to it, be it from the front wheel, rear wheel (as in my case), or transmission. It can be programmed for 1:1, 2:1, or 2240:60 ratio, and read either mph or kph. And has a cute little tach built in to boot. Both speedo and tach are electronic operated, and do that "sweep from min to max and back" dance at power up. And so far, the one on my '77 the needles are steady as a rock. I believe this is the one and only thing that I've ever bought from V-Tiwan that has not ended up in the garbage can. Yet. They must be getting from somebody else and re-branding them.

Anybody ever use a GPS speedo? I have used my phone for navigation and was surprised how inaccurate my speedo was.
