Title: Convert 74 XLCH from Kick to Electric Start
Post by: Maxlee on May 15, 2014, 10:12:31 AM
Does anyone know if you can convert or add an Electric Start to a kick start 1974 Sportster XLCH.  I know some models came from the factory with both methods of starting the bike.

Thank you.

oil tank location is wrong for bigger batt.
so start off with new oil tank and mounts and bigger batt and battery mounts and such,
then the starter itself, then the ring gear.
also the drive sprocket cover is different, has a cut out for starter clearance,
then the...well you get idea.

I would be seriously surprised if you get away with a grand in parts. There is a electric start kit available from Tedd Cycle, battery and clutch drum not included.

Anything Can be done...In this Case the best Option is to find someone who desires a Kick Only I.H. and Get yerself an E-Leg I.H.
No Matter What you spend on that I.H.  the Value will Not Change one bit.
