Title: 2000 carb ignition trouble codes
Post by: RVGRG on May 04, 2009, 10:01:32 AM
I have a head-quarters 6100 ignition on my bike. I believe these are a Dyna tech ignitions that are loaded with HQ's specs. My question is will these through the factory codes?
The bike had just died on me a couple of times over the last 3 tanks of fuel or so. I would turn it off and it would fire right back up and run normally. So I thought I may have a pinched tank vent or something along those lines. Well it did it twice the other day and both times just fired right back up. So the following morning I decided to look for the problem. Tank vent seems to be working fine but I have a constant engine light on. Check the manual and it after some troubleshooting it says replace ignition module. I had a screaming eagle on the shelf and put it in and rode a couple of tanks with no issue. However I'm still not sure that the old one was bad.
Anyone have any experience with these and codes?

Hawg thanks for the idea about Ken. When will you get yours back from him? Also did you notice an increase in millage when you put in the stock unit? I got an increase in millage and easier starting with the screaming eagle unit over the dtt. Found that odd.

I have a 2000 Softail when it was new 6 mos. mine through the engine light and started running bad till within 1/2 hour died. Needed to be towed to dealer new ignition module, under warranty. I know run the same as you HQ 6100 with a HQ 95 kit. You might also think about a faulty crank or cam sensor. Are year has both when either goes it will be dead, good luck.

Just for giggles did you disconnect the cam sensor? I run a dtt on my 00 Fatboy and I believe they tell you to disconnect it? Go to their website and download the instructions.
