Title: Wires to install Oil Temp Gauge on 03 Ultra
Post by: HardRydin1 on July 06, 2009, 05:02:46 PM
Installing an oil temp gauge on an 2003 ultra that has/had no air temp gauge.  The directions call to cut the 2 way terminal housing wires and install the 2 ring terminals that will connect to the oil temp gauge.  There was no air temp gauge but there is 1 (2) wire and 1 (3) wire connector zip tied together in the vicinity roughly behind the fuel gauge.  Are these the connectors for the air temp gauge referred to as 114B (that never existed) and is the 2 wire connector the one that should be cut?

Thanks for your help.

If the two connectors you are looking at are the same style connectors as you see connected to your other 2" gauges, you have what you need.  They will have an orange wire (power) and black wire (ground) in each connector.  The third wire in the three-wire connector is the sending unit wire which you wouldn't use.

While you are inside the fairing, it's very easy to move the voltmeter to the air temp slot, and install the oil temp gauge in the vacated voltmeter slot.  That way, you will have the oil pressure gauge and the oil temp gauge together.  You then use the orange and black wires from the voltmeter's two-wire connector for the oil temp gauge.  For the voltmeter, you use the two-wire connector for the bulb and the three-wire connector for the voltmeter and cut/disconnect the third wire for the air temp sending unit.

Good luck with your project.
